Supermarket fridges under hacker attack: with independent monitoring, the alarm would have gone off immediately

During the night between November 1st and 2nd, 2026, cyberattacks on refrigeration systems hit supermarkets in Belgium, Sweden, Estonia, Luxembourg, Ireland and Italy, following the previous French incident on October 12th. The attackers remotely altered the defrost cycles, bringing the display cases up to 50°C for hours and forcing stores to throw away tonnes of products. Our monitoring solution works on a separate line, independent from the system, and would therefore have detected the temperature rise and triggered the alarm in the middle of the night, instead of letting the damage be discovered when the store opened.

Independent monitoring does not prevent tampering with the system, but it prevents it from going unnoticed. A manager alerted in time can intervene before the goods are lost.
